If you are weak in any area previously taught, it is essential to review on your own.

Group Testing

A group test will be given after a regular exam. There will be the opportunity for a student to earn up to 10 extra points on your final test scores if a 75% cumulative is obtained on all exams (excluding the final). This will be awarded after the last exam.

NURSING PROGRAM TESTING POLICY:

All testing will take place in the testing center. The Nursing Program Testing policy in the 2015-2017 hand book will be strictly enforced.

Kaplan

Kaplan Testing:

  • Kaplan Comprehensive Integrated Med Surg Test (75 questions)
  • Kaplan Assessment test (180 questions)
  • Kaplan Predictor Test (150 questions)
  • Kaplan Diagnostic Test (180 questions)

Kaplan Course:

  • The last week of the semester you will take part in a four day session provided by Kaplan to prepare you for the NCLEX_RN. Attendance is mandatory. The Kaplan preparation course is scheduled for the week of May 1-4, 2017 from 0900 – 1600.

Each week starting April 3, 2017 of the course, students will also perform at least 40 - 50 NCLEX questions a day, utilizing the Kaplan website to facilitate passing the NCLEX. It is important to look at the correct as well as the incorrect rationales to promote your critical thinking and increase your understanding.

Integrated Kaplan for Med Surg 3

You will take the proctored Integrated Medical Surgical Comprehensive Kaplan test on (place date/time here) in the testing center. Students are expected to remediate all missed questions by using the forward/backward arrows on the screen. A quiz grade is given for this remediation. The student must remediate at least two minutes per question missed. With proctored exams, the student will not be able to see the actual question, but will be able to see the broad area of the missed question.  If the student does not remediate all missed questions, he/she will receive a zero. Failure by the student to remediate correctly will result in a zero for remediation.  A missed integrated Kaplan exam is not subject to make up and the student will receive a zero.

It is the responsibility of each student to ensure that his/her Kaplan user I.D. and password work prior to taking the first Kaplan test. Because Kaplan is a national timed test taken by thousands of nursing schools at on staggered dates/times, failure to ensure a working user I.D. and password will result in reduced time to test.  The student will be responsible to call Kaplan at the number on the website to reset his/her password. All returning students must notify this instructor by (date here) (tentative) at 2359 of returning status to ensure access to Kaplan testing. Failure to do so will result in reduced time to test.

Below is the adjusted grading scale for the Integrated Kaplan test.

NUR 260 ASSIGNMENTS

In-class assignments

In-class assignments and homework are not assigned prior to the class period in which they occur. In-class assignments consist of individual and small group activities. The usual due date for in-class assignments is the same day at the end of the hour.  The student must be present in class to receive credit.

Elsevier Adaptive Quizzing (EAQ)

Elsevier Adaptive Quizzing (EAQ) is a computerized tool that will help the student prepare for unit tests as well as NCLEX. It utilizes NCLEX style testing to quiz students over the material that will be on the test.  It is to your benefit to read the rationale for correct and incorrect answers – this is where learning takes place.

Each quiz is 12 questions. You may quiz multiple times until you reach Mastery Level 2 for each chapter that we study.  By Sunday night at 2359, prior to each test, each student should have quizzed and reached Mastery Level 2. (See the Course Calendar for assigned dates and times.) This is graded. Each successful Mastery Level 2 quiz will be awarded 10 points.  Failure to reach Mastery Level 2 by the due date will result in a zero (0).

Quizzes

Quizzes may be given at the beginning, middle, or end of class. More than one quiz may be given within one class day.  Quizzes may be computer or paper.  Paper quizzes are not returned to the student, however the student may make an appointment to review his/her quiz.

Tests

There are five tests and one Final Exam; all are preplanned. (See the Theory Course Calendar and Readings for all test dates and Final exam date.)  Nursing tests are written at the application, analysis, and synthesis level. Test questions contain current module material and may integrate material covered in previous courses, i.e. pharmacology, A&P, Med Surg I and II, etc.  All testing will take place in the testing center.
